Shopping sustainably is better for the earth and for us, especially when it comes to sustainable hair care.
Not only do popular hair care products from major retailers contain chemicals and ingredients that we can’t make sense of, but they come in plastic packaging.
The result? Needless plastic waste that sits in landfills for hundreds of years. Plus, plastic never really goes away or biodegrades. Instead, it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces called microplastics. To learn more about the push against plastic, check out this post.
Switching to more ecofriendly and naturally made hair care is game-changing for the planet and your hair.
Thankfully, brands who are centered around an ethos of environmental stewardship, like A Simple Planet, make it easy to switch.
A Simple Planet’s Sweet Orange Shampoo & Conditioner
This naturally-formulated shampoo and conditioner duo is made of ingredients that are either organic or wildcrafted (sources from the wild). A few examples are pineapple, makrut lime, and elephant apple.
Notably absent from this list are silicones, parabens, and common allergens. For this reason, this set is usually safe for those with sensitive scalps.
On top of that, products are developed without animal testing so these are cruelty free.
As far as fragrance goes, the light citrus scent comes from essential oils – with no artificial fragrances added. Lavender and unscented options are available.
Obviously, one of the reasons that this set is such a great option for sustainable hair care is that it comes in aluminum bottles instead of plastic bottles. You can even purchase refills to reuse the bottles.
The shampoo and conditioner come in travel size, 9 oz., 16 oz., and refill packets.
Review of A Simple Planet’s Sustainable Hair Products
After trying these out for a couple weeks, I learned that a little goes a long way with both of these. For reference, I use about 1/4 -1/3 pump (barely press on the pump) and that is enough to clean my hair without leaving residue.
The product allows for a lightweight and gentle wash that is ideal for regular washes mulitple times a week.
One of my favorite parts of this set is the subtle citrus scent. You’ll notice it if you’re looking for it, but it is not strong by any means. And, it does not leave my hair with any fragrance.
Overall, this is a convenient sustainable option for all hair types and one that I will definitely be recommending to my family and friends (especially those who aren’t keen on bar options).
