Think of the beauty aisles at popular retailers like Target or Walmart. Almost all of the products have one factor in common: plastic packaging. For example, think of shampoo & conditioner bottles, toothpaste & deodorant tubes. The list goes on and on. And, so does our consumption of plastic.
We regularly purchase these types of bathroom items. In fact, we may even have back-stock of them in our garages or under our sinks. Or, maybe we receive monthly subscription refills. Therefore, we plow through plastic bottles without slowing down to consider the packaging.
We live in a critical day and age when anthropocentric (or human-caused) climate change has been set into motion. Undoubtedly, it will continue to worsen without major individual and collective action. One starting point is educating ourselves on why consuming plastic is harmful. Earlier this summer, I wrote a blog post about this very subject in honor of Plastic Free July.
Native’s New Sustainable Deodorant
Also in celebration of this movement towards less plastic, Native launched a line of packaging-conscious deodorant. According to their website, opting for plastic free odor control could lead to a 169 ton annual decrease in plastic waste.
Disclaimer: Native gifted me these plastic free deodorants to share on Instagram. All thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog post are my own.
Instead of a plastic exterior, these deodorants come in a paper tube. To apply, push and hold the bottom for the product to pop up. Once finished, the exterior tube can be recycled. Unfortunately, since the lower tube touches the deodorant directly it will likely have to be tossed – unless you thoroughly clean it!
Plastic Free Deodorant Isn’t Only Healthy for the Planet
What’s on the inside is just as good as what’s on the outside. These products are created without aluminum or animal-based ingredients. Rather, they are vegan and cruelty free.
A few examples of their clean ingredients are baking soda, coconut oil, tapioca starch, and shea butter. You can view all of them on their site.
Since we apply deodorant on a daily basis, we must be conscious of what kinds we consume. Consider how natural the ingredients are and how sustainable the packaging is. Switch to a plastic free deodorant next time you run out. It is a simple way to help the planet. And, with cleaner beauty you may be helping your skin out in the process!
Love always,
